Eblana Photonics of Dublin, developer of a proprietary photon-bandgap laser technology suitable for long wavelength laser diode products used in high volume broadband access, enterprise, metro and SAN applications, Whose laser technology operates uncooled in simplified production packages for transceiver manufacture and exhibits differentiating features such as reduced sensitivity to optical feedback, circular non astigmatic laser emission for more efficient fibre and PLC coupling, and "excellent" thermal performance. In March 2006 having introduced the EP1310-FC4X laser product targeted at single-mode 4 Gbit/s Fibre Channel, expanding on Eblana's LDM product series for 10GBASE-LX4 applications and the EP1310-DM laser series, a 1310nm DFB laser replacement, targeted at price sensitive FTTH GEPON PX20 and GPON applications. In March 2007 having announced first shipments of extended range, single wavelength laser diodes for GPON and other transceiver applications built on Eblana's existing isolator-free, single-wavelength laser diode product range, said to be particularly attractive for transceivers based on PLCs since an isolator is not required and due to their ability to offer higher coupling efficiency and more accurate and reproducible laser to waveguide registration. Also in March 2007 having announced lasers for use in IEEE 802 3ae 10 Gigabit Ethernet, 10GBASE-LR/LRM/LW and 10.0G Fibre Channel applications.
Has now announced the first shipments of single wavelength laser diodes for analogue and other applications that require ultra-narrow line-width and low phase noise operation.
The new laser products exhibit RIN down to -160dB/Hz and emission linewidths below 100 kHz - even at emitted powers as low as 500 microWatts.
Daniel Tine, Head of North American Sales and Business Development at Eblana, commented, "This new product family increases the affordability of transceivers and transponders in conventional applications that require ultra-narrow linewidth, low noise sources such as long-reach/very long-reach spans in metro systems and long haul and ultra-long haul".
While Eblana Head of Asian Sales and Business Development, Bo Cai, added: "These lasers also make the superior sensitivity and longer transmission span achieved with coherent communications systems a real commercial alternative to WDM-based access systems". "They extend our product offering into the analogue, CATV, backhaul and coherent WDM spaces, providing distinct advantages to our customers in those increasingly challenging markets".
