Telefonica selects P.I. Works to provide mobile network optimisation services based on uSON solution

Global telco Telefonica, with a presence in 21 countries and serving approximately 322 million accesses worldwide, announced that it has selected P.I. Works, a provider of mobile network performance improvement solutions that is based in Turley, to deliver network optimisation services.

Under the terms of the agreement, P.I. Works will implement its proprietary centralised self organising network (SON) solution, uSON, which is designed to enable the resolution of capacity and coverage issues across Telefonica's mobile network.

P.I. Works stated that following an extensive evaluation of its services and solutions, Telefonica found that it was able to improve the quality and performance of its radio access network (RAN), while also reducing network overload. This enabled the operator to enhance subscribers' mobile experience, as well as reduce the need for base station upgrades.

P.I. Works, founded in 2005 and headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey, offers next-generation network performance improvement solutions designed to enable mobile operators to enhance network quality and the subscriber experience. The company has U.S. offices in Pleasanton, California and Reston, Virginia, as well as in Bucharest, Romania and in Singapore.

The company's unified SON (uSON) solution is designed to automate routine optimisation and operational tasks of complex mobile networks to help address capacity and coverage issues. P.I. Works has deployed its solutions with 38 operators in 27 countries.

In April, P.I. Works announced that Telkomsel, a major provider of mobile services in Indonesia, had selected its uSON solution to optimise its network. In March, the company announced Turk Telekom, the?largest integrated telco in Turkey, had selected it to provide network optimisation and planning as managed services to improve subscriber services. As part of the agreement, P.I. Works was to utilise its uSON product.

Regarding the latest engagement, Carlos López Calvo, optimisation and performance manager, RAN-GCTO unit at Telefonica, noted, "Telefonica collaborated with P.I. Works in the optimisation of its network and the results were very good… consequently, it have chosen P.I. Works as one of its radio optimisation services partners for the Telefonica group".
