Telstra launches Cloud Gateway enabling multi-cloud environments, connects to AWS and IBM SoftLayer
Announced Date: 4/19/2016 Published Date: 4/20/2016

Australian telco Telstra has announced Cloud Gateway, a solution designed for businesses seeking to simply and securely connect to multiple cloud environments, as well as the extension of its cloud services range with the addition of major global cloud platform Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Telstra's Cloud Gateway provides private and secure connectivity directly into multiple public cloud platforms. The one-to-many gateway model serves to connect an IP network service to the cloud with data carriage, cross connect in the hosting data centre, configuration and support. This allows organisations to securely access their chosen cloud platform with increased application performance via Telstra's IP network.

Initially, Cloud Gateway will offer customers worldwide connectivity to AWS and IBM SoftLayer, while Australian customers will also be able to connect to Microsoft Azure, Office365 and VMware vCloud Air. It is planned that additional infrastructure and SaaS platforms will be added over time. Cloud Gateway is scheduled to be available from June this year.

Separately, Telstra announced it has introduced two cloud-based online video platforms to its global media portfolio, namely the Video Monetisation Solution (VMS) and Online Video Solution (OVS), which are designed to help professional and digital media organisations more effectively stream, deliver and distribute online video content.

The two solutions leverage technology from Ooyala and expand Telstra's professional and digital media portfolio, which includes global satellite and teleports services, global media networks, SNG and miniature camera capabilities, supported from an advanced broadcast operations centre.

In January, Telstra announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Kloud, a provider of professional and managed services to enterprises seeking to transition workloads and applications to the cloud.

With offices in cities across Australia and in Manila, the Philippines, Kloud assists corporate and government customers in Australia and the Asia region to adopt and leverage cloud technologies. Kloud has expertise spanning cloud strategy, productivity solutions, identity and security, application development, cloud infrastructure and managed services for enterprise cloud applications. The company has established partnerships with Microsoft Azure and Amazon, as well as Telstra.
