ADTRAN introduces 10 GBE aggregation switch with link aggregation for enterprise market
Announced Date: 3/8/2016 Published Date: 3/9/2016

ADTRAN announced a new solution designed to enable enterprises, small businesses and schools to more quickly leverage gigabit broadband speeds with the release of its new 10 Gigabit Ethernet aggregation switch.

The new solution from ADTRAN is designed to offer more capacity and higher reliability than traditional switches and targets customers seeking to support increasing demand for high-bandwidth VoIP, WiFi, gigabit-to-the-desktop and cloud connectivity. ADTRAN has integrated these capabilities into its 10 Gbit/s solution to help enterprises and organisations transform their networks to support new services.

The new 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch from ADTRAN can be leveraged as either a high-capacity top-of-rack core switch or an aggregation switch in data centre environments. Support for link aggregation allows for the grouping of up to four 10 Gbit/s ports into a single 40 Gbit/s port at the physical layer for scalable high-bandwidth aggregation.

In addition, as enterprises prepare to adopt SDN-ready technologies ADTRAN's 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch provides an open and programmable architecture designed to expand in line with customer requirements and provide a transitory solution for the migration to SDN-enabled networks.

ADTRAN noted that the rise in gigabit services in the access network is creating opportunities for enterprises to access premium voice and data networks, while in the education sector gigabit connectivity can enable media-rich learning tools, and in the office gigabit solutions can provide more reliable connectivity and advanced business communications and cloud services.

Last year, ADTRAN announced the integration of a captive portal and wireless video delivery into its gigabit service architecture, thereby enabling service providers to reduce the time required to add new broadband and business subscribers. The new functionality is designed to help service providers meet demand for gigabit services and enable them to prepare for the delivery of new communications, entertainment, home automation and other bandwidth-intensive applications.

Based on ADTRAN's 424RG wireless residential gateway ONT and the captive portal, the solution is designed to enable error-free, fast service activation for gigabit broadband and business services.
