GCI to introduce 1 Gbit/s broadband in Anchorage, Alaska by 2015
Announced Date: 12/19/2013 Published Date: 12/19/2013

GCI has announced plans to deploy Alaska's first 1 Gbit/s Internet service, fibre re:D, which will be available in Anchorage by 2015.

As part of the move to a gigabit in Anchorage, GCI is also enhancing its existing premier re:D broadband service in Anchorage. With immediate effect, GCI is doubling re:D download speeds to 100 Mbit/s and reducing the price of re:D by 12.5% as the first in a series of free re:D speed increases.

The company is developing a plan to enable customers to prioritise the deployment of fibre re:D and is asking Anchorage neighbourhoods to request gigabit service. Those expressing the most interest will be the first to get fibre re:D.
